POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM) is an autonomous organization promoted by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India and co-sponsored by the Commodity Boards, viz. Tea Board, Coffee Board, Rubber Board, Spices Board and Plantation Associations viz. UPASI and Indian Tea Association.  IIPM has been conceived as a world renowned academic institution focusing in the field of agri-business, plantation commodity and management education.

Institute offers Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Agri-Business & Plantation Management (ABPM), DLP on Plantation Management through IGNOU, conducts executive and small & medium entrepreneurs development programmes, undertakes research and consultancy assignments and propose to launch an Executive Post Graduate Program (EPGP) in International Commodity Business (ICB) and Fellowship program in Agri-Business & Plantation Management.

IIPM is seeking candidates with outstanding managerial, technical and administrative expertise, for the position of two Faculty Associates (Project Officers) and one Office Associate, for the Tea Board of India sponsored project titled Tea Planters’ Productivity Council (TPC). One Faculty Associate (Project Officer) and Office Associate duty station will be at IIPM Centre, Jorhat and another Faculty Associate (Project Officer) at IIPM Bangalore.

Tea Planters’ Productivity Council (TPC) Project

With the onset of globalization, Indian tea industry is faced with different challenges, mainly related to productivity and the unit cost of production. As a medium and long-term measure, stepping up the rate of replantation and rejuvenation holds the key to long-term competitiveness of the Indian tea industry given the high age profile of tea bushes.

Currently, the focus in Indian tea sector is on improving all segments of the value chain and several efforts in this direction have been made. This includes efforts towards improving field productivity, labour efficiency through HRD initiatives, post harvest processing, encouraging internationally accepted certification, improving and upgrading infrastructure for extension system, R&D units & branding, packaging and marketing. 

The critical requirements identified above, need to be understood and attended to by the plantation managers across the country.  National level competency of the sector needs to be improved. Thus there is an immediate need to provide a forum with intellectual and practical inputs on a regular basis.  The establishment of Tea Planters’ Productivity Council at important places is expected to work towards this mission.

OBJECTIVES OF TPC

1)  To organize systematically capacity building workshops in the plantation zones of the country.
2)  To enlighten the planters to learn new dimensions of management and create a knowledge management      base for the industry.
3)  To co-ordinate and collaborate the Government, NGO, UNO and other development agencies to      associate with TPC.

A) General Requirements for Project Officers / Faculty Associates (One at IIPM Centre, Jorhat and another at IIPM, Bangalore)

  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent Post graduate qualification. Good academic record with at least 50% of the marks or, an equivalent grade at the Masters' Degree level in the relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from a Foreign University.

  • Professional competence and mastery of subject matter. Extent of experience in analytical work, drafting and preparing technical reports
  • Management and technical leadership of a high order in the relevant field.

  • Fluency in English and local language and Quality in both oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead and work effectively with a diverse team of people of different cultural backgrounds.

  • Perform other TPC related duties as required.
  • Organize meetings to plan and implement common surveys and studies that have priority at the national, zonal and district level;

  • Practical experience with application of results-based management methodology. Experience in leading or participating in project design, implementation, support or evaluation of projects.

B) General Requirement for Office Associate (One position at Jorhat)

  • Graduation or equivalent undergraduate program is the minimum requirement;

  • Computer fluency in word processing of documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision and close coordination with IIPM-Bangalore and its Centre, the incumbent will provide secretarial and administrative support as well as execute and coordinate to ensure project’s objectives are achieved:

  • Plan, organize and supervise series of zonal, district and national level workshop schedules;

  • Organize and act as Member-Secretary of meetings of the Project’s Coordination Committee;
  • Prepare and submit progress reports of the project as appropriate in consultation with TBI, TRA, ITA and IIPM;

  • Be responsible for the successful administration, operation and implementation of the project schedule;
  • Be responsible for project facilities and optimum utilization of the budget;

  • Identify equipment to be purchased through the project and organize workshops (budget, travel, technical modules, identification of facilities and of trainees in consultation with IIPM faculty and associated agencies;
  • Promote project activities in the area and participate in resource mobilization;

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Selection Criteria for Faculty Associates (Project Officers)

Selection will be through presentation and interview.

Duration: Three years w.e.f. December 2008.

Salary

Rs. 25,000/- fixed inclusive of EPF contribution per month with 10% enhancement per annum for the Project Officers and Rs. 10,000/- per month inclusive of EPF contribution with 10% increase from second year onwards to Office Associate.

Candidates should have cleared the NET (National Eligibility Test) conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICAR or similar test accredited by the UGC. Candidates, who are in the process of clearing NET and awaiting results will be considered for a consolidated pay for an year.

NET shall remain compulsory requirement for appointment as Lecturer/Faculty Associates for those with Post Graduate Degree. 2) PLACEMENT OFFICER

The Institute is seeking suitable candidates for the position of Placement Officer, based at IIPM-Bangalore. The Institute is a post-graduate business school of Agri-Business and Plantation Management dedicated to educating young graduates, professionals and the officials of Commodity Boards of India to contribute their talents in advancing the larger societal systems and initiatives that serves Agri-business and Plantation sector. The Placement Officer provides the key support function to help students and professionals achieve high quality practicum training and placement within the country and abroad. The Placement Officer provides managerial advisement to Post Graduate Program in Agri-Business & Plantation Management (PGP-ABPM) students to place them in corporate training, field, industry & international visits and final placements. The placement officer evaluates existing training, placement practices and develops new system; as well as; maintains a pool of volunteer supervisors to work with students placed in collaborative agencies and industries.

ACCOUNTABILITY:The Placement Officer works under the supervision of the Director and Faculty Council, and provides corporate training, placement services & retention to the students and trainees of IIPM as well as insuring a high standard of customer service, including public relations within the country and abroad.

QUALIFICATIONS: MBA in HR or related fields. Candidates must have strong organizing and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to provide students with appropriate guidance and support in the realm of corporate training and placement activity. Candidates need to be able and committed to incorporate issues of diversity in all aspects of their work with students. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide training and placement job retention services to students and trainees through a responsive schedule of follow-up services;

Period of deputation including period of deputation in another ex-cadre post held immediately preceding this appointment shall not ordinarily exceed 3 years. The persons selected will have the option to draw his/her grade pay plus deputation (duty) allowance or to have his/her pay fixed in the scale of the post subject to relevant rules on the subject.
