Field Industry Work Segment

The 5-week Field-Industry Work Segment (FIWS), which follows the first term, is designed to give students a hands-on experience of the grassroots realities in a range of sectors – tea, coffee, agribusiness, agri-input, spices, rubber, floriculture and biotechnology. During this segment the students are provided direct exposure to the grassroots realities of plantations, focusing on production related issues. The students get to learn about the concerns and issues at the beginning of the value chain in the agribusiness and plantation sectors. This is an essential element of the “grounded praxis” approach to their education.

During this segment for 20 days the students visit in groups to various estates and agri-business processing centres of different organizations and write a report based on experiential learning from the visit. The next phase of 15 days is for individual visits and interactions with various organizations based on student’s individual interest.
