Sarbani Mukherjee is an Associate Professor in the Economics area at the Indian Institute of Plantation Management. Her areas of interest lie in management of natural resources, sustainable development, impact assessment of development interventions in the plantations sector, and agriculture policy evaluation. She is particularly interested in contributing to scholarship that explores the development and impact of policy and governance innovations in plantations, agriculture, and allied sectors. As a Fulbright Doctoral and Professional Research Fellow with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI, Washington DC, USA), she had the unique opportunity to participate in multiple supplementary research projects that matched her interests and educational needs.

Sarbani has worked on various research and development projects in plantation and agriculture domains sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (GoI), Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change (GoI), UNDP, and ICSSR. While she has a background in economics and social sciences, including evaluation of agricultural policy and development interventions, she has also engaged in studies related to conservation and biodiversity aspects in the plantation sector, reflecting an interest in how policies change in the face of ongoing economic and climatic shifts. She takes a multi-disciplinary approach to research, and her work reflects a commitment to using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
